As a biologist, many of the themes for my watercolors come from my life experiences in concert with nature. I love to paint woodland plants and wild animals as well as special animal companions (like my special cats). I strive to capture each creature's free spirit with my flowing watercolor paint. The beautiful vistas and wooded acres surrounding my home in the New River Valley of Southwest Virginia are inspirational and watercolor, especially "wet-on-wet" technique, is the perfect medium for representing the beauty of our Blue Ridge Mountains.
The New River Valleyalso has a rich historical heritage. Antiques create a window into that history and they often find their way into my paintings. My painting,"Egg Money Quilt" features some of those special items!
